Clearning out from the snow... Brooklyn Ink

With heavy snow drifts still blowing on side streets throughout Brooklyn (and canceling several nighttime community meetings), it is as good a time as any to draw your attention to two websites of some journalism school students who are assigned beats to cover in Brooklyn.

NYCinFocus and The Brooklyn Ink cover Brooklyn neighborhoods with interesting and well-written news and feature stories every week. Some articles on NYCinFocus are a little dated, but check out Leonard Schoenberg's piece on Major League Dreidel, Danielle Bengsch's podcast about Christmas tree vendors in Williamsburg and Greenpoint and Miss G Train, Diana Markosian's musings about new Russians in Brighton Beach, and Sanaz Meshkinpour's look into local pharmacies in Bay Ridge.

At The Brooklyn Ink, there's quite a lot to choose from, but look at Christopher Alessi's diary of a New Kings Democrats meeting, Laura Kusisto's look at the demolition of brownstones in Bedford Stuyvesant, Alessi and Nathania Zevi's piece on child abuse in Borough Park, Alyson Martin's video from the Bensonhurst fire (with part II), and Danielle Bengsch's podcast from Williamsburg's Shag sexy shop.
