Gerhardt Fuchs

This is the kind of story you never want to see. A chilling, needless death that came from using a typical freight elevator in an industrial loft building many of us have been in before.
I have been in this building before for a friend's party though I didn't use the elevator.

An industrial preservationist told me that this is the kind of building that needs to be renovated in order for it to be safe for residential use. There are many of these types of buildings that straddle the zoning line between residential and industrial and the DOB and Council should look to come up with better policies and enforcement to tackle safety issues in these buildings.

From many accounts, Fuchs was a talented and popular drummer with a remarkable career ahead of him. He was loved and he will be missed.
