I didn't include a weekly links list on Friday, so let's take a look back at eleven stories from the past week or two that deserve a second look.
*Leading off, the Brooklyn Paper's Stephen Brown looks at how Boerum Hill's House of Detention will be expanding, featuring Comptroller Billy Thompson.
*At The Courier, Gary Buiso compares and contrasts Superfunding the Gowanus Canal versus Newtown Creek while I have story about the public's public comments for Newtown Creek. Gary and I are working to adapt the word "Superfund" as a verb. Like summer. As in, I summer on the banks of the Newtown Creek every year. Or, superfund this!
*The Courier's Tom Tracy also has a nice write-up of Bill De Blasio during Inauguration Day and his vision of the future. He also writes about Jumaane Williams.
*Also at The Courier, Michele De Meglio interviews one of the worst cooks in America, Bushwick resident Rachel Coleman.
*Back to the Brooklyn Paper we go, as Andy Campbell loves David's Brisket (I tried to get in there once but it closed early), partied down at Starlite Lounge, but couldn't get into Club Exit in time because it has closed down.
*Chris Bragg at City Hall News reports that A Short Story old friend Costa Constantinides is running for the State Assembly in Astoria now that Michael Gianaris has cast his eyes towards the State Senate. He's been thinking about this for years.
*In parks-related news, Brooklyn Heights Blog has a progress report for the Brooklyn Bridge Park while the Parks Department's Stephanie Thayer updates openings and delays in North Brooklyn.
*BushwickBK recounts a horrific fire in East Williamsburg at 55 Harrison Place.
*The Park Slope Armory is finally open!
*The New York Times looks at teaching Green in Williamsburg which goes beyond recycling while Jonah Bokaer picks up a little recognition from the Times T Magazine.
*Finally, while we're on the Green theme, Juliet Linderman looks at Greenpoint's Green (and only) Rabbi, Maurice Appelbaum who runs Rami Metal's favorite synagogue. Which reminds me, I have to get to shul there.
