A mere two days after the Street Memorial Project commemorated cyclists and pedestrians who have been killed by traffic over the past year, there were several more fatalities on city streets.
The latest is a woman who was struck and killed at the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge on the Manhattan side. Police have not released her name yet. Here's DCPI on the latest:
01/05/10, at 1608 hours, police responded to call of a person struck by a vehicle in the vicinity of Ludlow Street and Delancey Street, located within the confines of the 7th Pct. Upon arrival police determined that a female who was riding her bicycle E/B on Delancey Street was struck by a full size yellow school bus also traveling E/B on Delancey Street . EMS also responded to the scene and pronounced the female DOA. There is no criminality suspected at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
Here's Sully Ross from the Street Memorials Project
“This is hard every year,” said Sully Ross, a Carroll Gardens resident who helped organize the Street Memorials Project ride. “It’s a cold day and it’s a long ride. It’s very emotional. Every stop is a reminder of another seemingly senseless crash. It can be overwhelming.”
